The Great News Letter

Today is March 5th, and welcome to The Daily Quote – a podcast designed to kickstart your day in a positive way. I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, and I’m happy you are here with me today.

In the spirit of true North strong and free, we’re celebrating National Poutine Day, a day dedicated to Canada’s most iconic comfort food: a hearty dish of fries, cheese curds, and gravy that has warmed the hearts and bellies of many, both far and wide.

For today’s special occasion, our quote comes from one of Canada’s most inspiring figures, Terry Fox.

He once said,

“Dreams are made possible if you try.”

Terry Fox’s remarkable journey across Canada, with the goal of raising awareness and funds for cancer research, stands as a testament to the power of determination, hope, and the willingness to try, even against the most daunting odds.

Terry Fox ran a marathon a day with a prosthetic leg. I couldn’t handle doing one marathon – with both my legs. He was an amazing athlete and an even more amazing person.

You might be wondering, “How does a dish of fries, cheese, and gravy connect with Terry Fox’s inspiring message?” Well, it’s all about the essence of trying something new and the beauty of simple beginnings.

Poutine, much like any great endeavor, started with a simple idea. It was the willingness of someone to try combining these three basic ingredients that gave birth to a dish now celebrated nationally, and loved globally.

Terry Fox’s message encourages us to pursue our dreams and aspirations, no matter how unreachable they may seem.

Similarly, the creation of poutine from humble ingredients to a culinary symbol of a nation reminds us that great things often start from small, simple acts of trying.

It’s a celebration of innovation, creativity, and the courage to try something that might just become a part of our identity.

So, on this National Poutine Day, let’s draw inspiration from Terry Fox and the beloved dish we celebrate. Let’s remember that dreams, big or small, culinary or otherwise, are made possible if we dare to try. Whether it’s experimenting with a new recipe, starting a project, or taking a step towards a personal goal, today is a reminder of the power held in the act of trying.

Thank you for joining me today as we connect the dots between a Canadian hero’s enduring legacy and our nation’s comfort food. I hope Terry Fox’s words inspire you to chase your dreams with the same courage and determination it took to create and celebrate a dish as simple yet significant as poutine. Until next time, I’m your host, Andrew McGivern, encouraging you to dream, to try, and to savor the journey, one step (or bite) at a time.
