He is traditionally credited with composing The Iliad and The Odyssey, two of the most influential works in Western literature. His epic poems explore courage, wisdom, loyalty, and the consequences of human choices, and they continue to inspire readers nearly three thousand years later.
Today's quote, widely attributed to Homer, is:
”Words empty as the wind are best left unsaid.”
Words have power.
They can encourage or discourage.
They can heal or hurt.
They can build trust or shatter it.
In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to speak before we think. A quick comment, an angry response, or a careless remark can have consequences that last far longer than the moment itself.
This quote reminds us that not every thought needs to become words. Sometimes the wisest response is to pause.
To listen. To consider whether what we're about to say is true, helpful, and necessary.
Silence isn't weakness.
Often, it's a sign of wisdom and self-control.
