Today's quote, attributed to Natalie O’Rourke, although the exact attribution hasn't been independently verified. Natalie O’Rourke is a writer and life coach whose work focuses on personal development, empowerment, mindset, and living with greater purpose. She has written about turning dreams into plans and taking intentional action toward the life we want to create.

She is attributed with saying:

”When we are not sure what our priorities are, we are easily influenced by the priorities of others.”

Think about how easy it is to let someone else decide what's important to you.

Your boss says something is urgent.

Your friends are pursuing a particular lifestyle.

Social media tells you what you should want.

Advertising tells you what you should buy.

And before you know it, you're spending your time and energy pursuing goals that you never actually chose for yourself.

That's why knowing your priorities matters.

If you know that family is important to you, you'll make different decisions about your time.

If health is a priority, you'll make different choices about your habits.

If building a business or pursuing a creative dream matters to you, you'll have to protect time for it.

Your priorities become a filter.

They help you decide what deserves your attention and, just as importantly, what doesn't.

And here's the interesting thing:

You don't have to say yes to everything that is important to someone else.

Their priorities are theirs.

Yours are yours.

So here's the question:

If you had to name the three things that matter most to you right now, what would they be?

And then ask yourself an even more important question:

Does the way you're spending your time actually reflect those priorities?

Because it's easy to say something matters.

It's much harder, and much more effective, to look at your calendar and ensure your in control of what you actually make time for.

Remember, if you don't consciously choose your priorities, there's a good chance someone else will choose them for you.
